Day 3 - It's not like chrome


This post is very late. Really very late. It's so late, that Voxelate managed to write and publish his before I even started mine. It is very late.

I can start by saying that I didn't get anything like what I hope to do done. That is bad. But it's also okay - there were other days where I did more than I anticipated doing. Virtually all of day 3 was spent adding the crunch to weapon generation, which has now pretty much happened. At the very close of day 3, I handed that code (and design) to Voxelate to hone and finish, while I turned my attention to other more fundamental and pressing features. I will reflect on the weapon crafting system slightly before I go on. 

The potential scope and complexity in the system is staggering. This is a very good thing. Complexity is good, and it is good in this system because interfacing with the system is complex but easy. The complexity is entirely emergent, and that is the desired outcome. Not all is rosy though. Because the scope for the system is so huge, the temptation to be exhaustive in modelling scenarios to accommodate the various emergent complexities is exhaustive. And time consuming.  So.

My promises (spoiler: they're broken)

• To draw graphics;

• To work on combat (I did actually keep this one!);

• I worked on generating corpses but not generating a corpus.

• Wrote a significant amount of code for generating stats for customised weapons. Then worked on the next item in this list.

• Rewrote previously written code, and made it worse. Then did the first item on the list again.

•I did actually manage to add supporting code for little bits and pieces here and there, which wile small, were also needed.

Things I'm doing tomorrow

• Adding keyboard mapping and navigation for all interfaces and menus.

• Finishing monster generation. 

• Gonna try and write a little music.
